Mindful Meditations
Very simply, mindfulness is a non-judgmental caring attention to the here and now.
As one of my mindful meditation teachers, Jack Kornfield says: “Meditation is a deliberate training of attention that awakens us beyond the conditioned mind and habitual thinking and reveals the nature of reality.”
Meditation assists us in developing the non-judgmental caring attention to the here and now. There are many forms of meditation – and mindful meditation offers a gentle approach to quieting the mind and opening the heart.
I have chosen mindful meditation as a pathway to experiencing more presence and peace. I needed to learn how to be kinder to myself, to calm the harsh critic and to become present in situations that had caused me to zone out or react in ways I regretted.
Mindfulness is an invitation to dignity, graciousness and wellbeing. It’s simple – but it is not always easy.
Sylvia Boorstein, author and meditation teacher shares the simplicity of this practice: “Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience. It isn’t more complicated than that. It is opening to or receiving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is, without either clinging to it or rejecting it.”
Now, I extend the invitation to you.
